Exhibitions and archaeological finds

Cuccuru is Arrius

The first section is dedicated to the Cuccuru is Arrius site, located along the southern shore of the Cabras pond. Excavations in this area have revealed a rich series of artifacts documenting life from prehistory to the Roman era. Exhibits include stone female figurines, ceramic vessels, necklace elements, bone spearheads, and obsidian tools, dating back to the Upper Neolithic and the Copper Age.

Tharros

The section dedicated to Tharros offers an overview of archaeological investigations at the site from the Phoenician era to the Roman period. Exhibits include ceramic urns and sandstone stelae from the tophet, a Phoenician-Punic funerary sanctuary. Additionally, ceramic and metallurgical materials from the artisan quarter document the city’s evolution up to the Middle Ages.

Giants of Mont’e Prama

One of the museum’s main attractions is the hall dedicated to the Giants of Mont’e Prama, inaugurated in 2014. These Nuragic stone statues, up to 2.5 meters tall, represent warriors, archers, and boxers. The sculptures, found in the Mont’e Prama necropolis, are striking for their details, such as concentric circle eyes and traces of color. The Giants of Mont’e Prama are exhibited in both the Cabras museum and the one in Cagliari.

Discovery of the Mal di Ventre shipwreck

The final hall is dedicated to the discovery of the Roman shipwreck of Mal di Ventre in 1989. In the hull remains, found just over a mile from the island of Mal di Ventre, a cargo of one thousand lead ingots was discovered, datable between 89 and 50 BC. This discovery represents an important testimony to Roman trade in the Mediterranean.
